Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus Yang Yundong Meets with Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus Khassim Diagne
On 4 September, Ambassador of China to Cyprus Yang Yundong met with Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus Khassim Diagne.
Ambassador Yang noted that the Chinese side firmly supports the cause of the United Nations and actively participates in UN peacekeeping operations. He commended UNFICYP’s important contributions to upholding peace and stability in Cyprus. He also stressed that the Chinese side stands ready to promote a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Cyprus problem on the basis of relevant UN resolutions.
SRSG Diagne elaborated on the work of UNFICYP, and spoke highly of China’s important role in UN peacekeeping operations. He extended appreciation for China’s valuable support to UNFICYP and expressed readiness to maintain close communication and coordination with the Chinese side, so as to uphold peace and stability in Cyprus and support the settlement process of the Cyprus problem.
Before the meeting, Ambassador Yang also visited Chinese peacekeeping police officers at the UNFICYP camp.
