Chinese Ambassador to Uganda Wu Guangrong Publishes a Signed Article in Leading Ugandan Media

On September 2, Chinese Ambassador to Uganda Wu Guangrong published a signed article titled “Zero Tariffs: The Global Governance Initiative in Action in Africa” in Uganda’s leading media outlets New Vision, Daily Monitor and Nile Post.

The article noted that the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping provides a Chinese solution to addressing the global governance deficit and building a more just and equitable global governance system. Since its launch a year ago, the initiative has received broad recognition and positive responses from the international community, demonstrating strong appeal and vitality. China’s implementation of zero-tariff treatment for all 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic relations is a major step in advancing high-standard opening up and a vivid example of the initiative in action in Africa.

The article stressed that the indiscriminate imposition of tariffs has become an enemy of international fairness and justice, seriously disrupting global industrial and supply chains and the international economic order, and undermining the legitimate development rights and interests of the Global South. China-Uganda trade reached a new high in 2025, underscoring the strong momentum of openness and cooperation. China stands ready to work with African and other Global South countries to expand opportunities through openness, build consensus through cooperation, and jointly promote a more just and equitable global governance system.
