Stabbing Leaves 17-Year-Old Boy Dead in Japan

(MENAFN) A 17-year-old male died and two peers sustained injuries following a knife assault in western Japan, local outlets reported Sunday.

Authorities apprehended a 21-year-old male suspect on homicide and attempted homicide charges within hours of the late Saturday assault in Osaka's bustling Dotonbori commercial zone, a Japanese public broadcaster confirmed.

The three casualties were all 17-year-old males.

Kamada Ryunosuke, a Nara prefecture resident from the adjacent region, succumbed to his injuries at a medical facility after suffering knife wounds to his thorax and additional body areas.

The remaining two casualties, both Osaka prefecture natives, received upper body stab injuries and were transported to hospital. Medical authorities have not released updates on their current status.

Law enforcement officials indicated the accused suspect had engaged in a verbal altercation with the three teenagers preceding the violent episode.
