China Hails Pakistan-Afghanistan 48-Hour Ceasefire
At a Thursday briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized Beijing’s support for both countries, which share borders with China.
“We have noted that Pakistan and Afghanistan have decided to implement a temporary ceasefire and will work toward resolving issues through consultation. This serves the common interests of both sides and helps maintain regional peace and stability,” Lin stated.
Highlighting China’s diplomatic ties with Islamabad and Kabul, Lin added that Beijing “supports their efforts to exercise restraint and manage differences through dialogue.”
“China supports Pakistan and Afghanistan in realizing a full and lasting ceasefire, handling differences through dialogue and consultation, and returning to the path of political settlement. We believe this will contribute to peace, stability, and the improvement of bilateral relations,” he said.
The spokesperson also reaffirmed China’s willingness to take on a “constructive role” in fostering peace, development, and stability between the two neighbors.
The ceasefire, agreed to for 48 hours, followed recent clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. This truce marks the second such pause after hostilities flared on October 11 but subsided following mediation by Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
